This is a new thing that started after the Ferguson debacle and I really don't like it. Throw in Mall sit-ins to this group of protest. I have two basic reasons why:
1) If I'm walking down the street and somebody is protesting I can read their signs and hear their slogans, but I can still get to where I'm going. I think most people would have a problem if they were walking by and somebody grabbed them and physically restrained them until they listened to the protest message. In a free country you have a right to protest, but I have a right to not care. Nobody should have a right to restrict my free movement.
2) Both the mall and highway protests impact commerce. In the malls protesters are trying to make it hard to shop. They shouldn't be allowed to do that to businesses that are trying to operate and pay the bills. On the highways there are truck drivers who make their living by mileage. There are people who just need to get to work and may have things to get done.
So why is it that we allow this bullshit? We shouldn't have protests like this without arrests. I'm not against freedom of speech. Just get your permit and protest in front of public buildings in public parks, etc. Don't restrain commerce. Don't hold 3rd parties in place against their will. They say the Chicago protest was organized by a Catholic priest. Make a point and press charges. You don't have to throw him in jail for a long time. Just make a point so others think twice.
