Last year, Wilks took something like a "sabbatical" from coaching. Idk what he actually did during this time, but he wasn't coaching. I have a hard time believing that was up to him, but he could've chosen family time and getting acquainted with the modern game play (maybe Eli even said "be patient, I'll hire you next year.")
Per his contract, he must "attempt" to find employment elsewhere if Mizzou parts ways with him. The guy isn't old, but say he ends up in the same situation and isn't coaching, etc. and retires from coaching.. Will Mizzou still be on the hook for his entire compensation? I'm assuming yes, but curious how that would work, @GabeD . I'm sure the guy can get analyst work somewhere if he wants to. No way he's back here in 2022.
