Question on transfers

Toledo's winter semester starts on Monday (Jan 9). If Jackson (or Hughes) play here through the 8th and enroll there on the 9th, does that start their clock such that they would have to sit out this winter semester and only next fall's and thus become eligible in January 2018? Could Hughes still be playing here on Saturday yet still transfer there time? I hope he stays, just trying to get clarity to know when to stop worrying.
