MIZ wins the toss and elects to receive.
Starters for offense
OL: Javon Foster, Xavier Delgado, Connor Tollison, Cam’Ron Johnson, Armand Membou
TE: Tyler Stephens
WR: Luther Burden III, Theo Wease, Mookie Cooper
RB: Cody Schrader
QB: Brady Cook
Starters for defense
DL: Darius Robinson, Kristian Williams, Jay Jernigan, Johnny Walker
LB: Ty'Ron Hopper, Dameon Wilson
DB: Ennis Rakestraw, Daylan Carnell, Tre’Vez Johnson, Joe Charleston, Kris Abrams-Draine
First Series for offense: So, they start the season by running my least favorite play. The pistol singleback for a gain of seven before getting a couple of receptions on the next two plays for short-yard gains. Cook completes all three of his passes to start the drive but the Tigers punt on fourth and one from their own 45. Riley Williams gets the first punt. So, guess he won the position battle as expected.
I get why they punted, but fourth and one on your own 45 versus South Dakota and you punt. I don’t know. You should get a yard on that defense in my opinion.
First series for defense: I see Tre’Vez Johnson instead of Jaylon Carlies. But it was a pretty good three and out. Nothing going for SD offense at all so that’s a great sign.
Second series for offense: Cook gets his second chance. Schrader getting a heavy workload and he gets a first down. So, he has four or five touches on the first seven plays. Burden gets a couple of jet sweeps on consecutive plays. The first one went for a first down and the last one went for three yards. I see a lot of pre-snap motion going on as expected.
Cook with an 18-yard bullet to Mekhi Miller across the middle on what looked like some post route or something. PAT is good. SD 0, MIZ 7
Cook went through his progression and came back to Miller. Also, that was Miller’s first career touchdown. I said he’s going to be the Breakout Player of the Year.
Second series for defense: A quick three-and-out. Missouri's defense is locking up. Then Cainman Hayes gets a punt block.
Three Series for offense: Cook goes back out there. A quick screen to Luther Burden for 14 yards. Cook is 8-8 for 63 yards to start. A Nathaniel Peat touchdown is brought back by a holding penalty on Marcellus Johnson. Tigers tried to use six offensive linemen. But the good thing is that’s the first penalty. By this time last year, it felt like they would have at least two or three.
Peat squeaks in for a one-yard touchdown. PAT is good. SD 0, MIZ 14
I think it’s time for Sam Horn to get a look. Impressive quarterback from Cook. He’s done what has been asked.
Freshmen I’ve seen in the game: Brett Norfleet, Jordan Harris, Marvin Burks, and Phillip Roche
Three Series for defense: Already plenty of second-teamers getting a shot. I see Nyles Gaddy, Marcus Clarke, Josh Landry, Chuck Hicks and Realus George. On second down, a gang of defensive linemen got the sack. I saw Johnny Walker and Nyles Gaddy in there, but there were like four players in on the sack. South Dakota with five yards on nine plays, so I say the defense is doing well.
Fourth Series for offense: Cook out there again. First play out he completes a pass to Wease for a gain of nine. Cook is 10-10 for 79 yards.
End of 1st Quarter: SD 0, MIZ 14
