That a good majority of PM thought sucked and would never cut it in the SEC back a few years ago? With the depth chart now released I thought it would be interesting to take a look at the early returns of that class that a good % of the PM crowd was so disenchanted with back in 2014.

  • It was a 28 man class, but Greg Taylor didn't qualify and went the Juco route, Lawrence Lee was dismissed from the program, and DGB lite never made it to campus period. Which left it as a 25 man class.
  • Of those 25, all of which are now sophomores or RSFR with Kenya Dennis being the exception as the lone Juco recruit, here's the breakdown from yesterdays depth chart that was released:
  • 3 of the 25 are already listed as starters this year-Brown, Dilosa, and Dennis.
  • An additional 10 of the 25 have already cracked the two deep as RSFR or Sophomores- Adams, Witter,Blair, Richard, Pendleton, Brady, Lee, Cheadle, Ross, and Wilson.
  • Three more of the 25 are listed on the depth at 3rd team in Zanders,Wingo, and Stribling. Minus the knee injury you'd have to think Trevon Walters would fit in here as well.
  • Then you still have guys like Andy Bauer who's one of the higher rated offensive lineman we've recruited and Fairchild that there's good reports on who could eventually develop into starters along the OL in future years.
So bottom line, for all the flak this class caught as not being anywhere good enough to cut it in the SEC, the early returns seem to indicate that it could easily produce 15 starters out of the 25 man class in the coming years, with possibly another 5-6 guys that could play a ton in a depth role. Regardless of where it ranked or what it looked like on paper at the time, that's some pretty salty returns on any recruiting class no matter how you slice it.
