When Missouri offered a group of Chicago (Ill.) Mt. Carmel players in January, it left a lasting mark on the unit. Three sophomores made the trip to see Columbia this past Saturday, and Quentin Burrell walked on campus as a top wideout target.
Burrell, the No. 109 recruit in the 2027 class, met wide receivers coach Jacob Peeler for the first time. He learned the ins and outs of the position group and the expectations Peeler holds for his players.
"I like how he wants his guys to compete in everything they do," Burrell said, "because that's exactly who I am. He is into the details and wants to develop guys, and that is what I'm looking for."
Peeler obviously impressed Burrell with his background of getting A.J. Brown and DK Metcalf to the NFL. That history with "Nasty Wideouts" only strengthened trust between Peeler and Burrell about future development at Missouri.
The Tigers put on pads for the first time this spring Saturday. The practice was full of high energy, and that was evident to Burrell when watching the wide receivers speed through drills.
Burrell knew of freshman receiver Donovan Olugbode, originally from Chicago, from BOOM Football, a 7-on-7 team in the Midwest.
"It was good to see him make plays in the scrimmage," Burrell said. "I was not able to talk to him that much but will try to in future visits."
Burrell plans to visit Missouri again this fall for a game, looking to spend more time with Peeler. Wisconsin (March 20), Michigan (March 22) and Michigan State (April 12) will host Burrell next.
