As much shit as he takes if Tilmon is done for the year this result doesn’t matter because they weren't going anywhere anyway. Without him they have no one that can post a guy up and get a bucket. That is kind of important in basketball.
What the hell is up with Javon. When we play IL he is an All-American. When we play anyone else he is nonexistent on the offense end.
Overall the officials were decent in comparison to other college basketball officials. Which is not a high bar. Maybe someone can explain to me how Dru’s last two fouls work. His feet were clearly set and he gets called for a block. The TN player has a foot in the air and he is called for a charge. Overall pretty fair game but that stung.
Speaking of Dru. I know he doesn’t think he is a score first guy, but he probably has to be.
Prior to tonight I thought too much was being made of HCCM’s rotations. I am ready to stipulate I was wrong about that. Jackson just scores 7 straight points and looks great doing that and you sit him down. The kid has a lot of talent. Maybe enough talent to take over 5 minutes of a game and coach just put some ice on him when he was red hot. This is the first game where I think poor in game decisions were the main contributing factor to the loss. The fact that there has been none or very few at most before this is a reason I like coach a lot. (Realize this might not be a popular take right now) The icing of Tray and the decision to bring Dru back with almost 7 minutes left and 4 fouls were mind numbingly stupid. We were winning. There was no reason to rush Dru back. The only other time he fouled out the team mentally collapsed. That happened again tonight.
What does any of this mean big picture? Maybe nothing. By and large this is a very young team. Mostly sophomores and freshmen, including Mitch. If Mitch was a freshman he would have been a 5 star recruit. To bad he has been in the program many years to get here now. These kids should and will get better. The concerning part is we seem to be missing the one guy who can take over a game. Maybe we land Christopher, maybe not. But that seems to be a necessity for this style of play.
One last thought is if Tilmon is done for the year with a stress fracture then for each of the 3 years that Zo has been here he will get exactly nothing out of the guy that everyone expected to be the best player going into the season. Maybe people thought too much of JT but that was the thought anyway. This team isn’t what any of us want. We all hoped to be further along by this point. But If you consider the dumpster fire he took over and the results he has got so far it is somewhat impressive. I think given enough time he will build a winner here. With the level of impatience in today’s world I am not sure he will get it.
That’s it. Shit game tonight and we will probably have some more of this for the rest of the year.
