I received a response from Senator Roy Blunt. He seems engaged. Those who contacted him have caught his attention. Thank you to those fighting for Mizzou. Here is Senator Blunt’s response to my email.

“Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts on the National Collegiate Athletic Association’s (NCAA) penalties imposed on the University of Missouri’s athletics program.

As you know, on Thursday, January 31, 2019, the NCAA released findings and penalties ruling that a former tutor for the athletic program violated ethical and academic conduct and academic extra benefits rules. I completely disagree with the NCAA sanctions against the University of Missouri. From the NCAA’s own report, it was clear that the University was transparent and did the right thing reporting both the tutor’s actions and the small number of players involved.

I immediately put out a statement disagreeing with the NCAA’s ruling. Additionally, I sent a letter to NCAA President Emmert to strongly encourage the organization to re-examine this case and to not punish today’s upstanding Mizzou student-athletes because of isolated incidents that occurred years ago. I stand with Chancellor Cartwright, Athletic Director Jim Sterk and the Mizzou community in questioning the fairness of the NCAA ruling and will continue monitoring this case closely.”
