Yesterday was watching The Masters and a little trauma hit too close to home. Kim got frustrated at his putter, slammed it down, broke the shaft. You cannot continue to use a club altered in the course of play. And of course you only carry one putter in the bag. He finished with his three wood. So back in my college golf days we were playing in a tournament in Austin area at Barton Creek. The course was set up ridiculously long, the weather was incredibly awful spring TX weather. And back in those days I got a little more irritable. Well. On hole 12 or so of 27 one day, my putter was on my last nerve. Slammed the bottom into the ground. Putter shafts must be incredibly fragile. Didn’t know anything was wrong until the next hole when I stood over my putt and it had a noticeable bow in it. Oops. So I played the next 14 holes or so with a 60 degree wedge as my putter. Good news was only two three putts. Bad news was zero one putts and the course was so damn long for me that I wasn’t hitting many greens in regulation. Long ass day. So yesterday hit close to home.
