There was a recent posting of a link listing the top running backs at Mizzou. While who would be on that top 5 list is up for debate, nearly everyone will agree that the following belong somewhere on a top ten type list.
Devin West, Moberly
Brock Olivo, St. Francis Borgia by way of Herman
James Wilder, Sikeston,
Tony Galbreath, Fulton
All the above are from smaller high schools or are from out state Missouri.
You could even add Joe Moore, (StL), Gerry Ellis (Hickman), Ron Janes (Shelbina), Earnest Blackwell (STL), Jon Staggers ( JC), Zack Abron (Lake St. Louis) , & George Shorthose ( JC) to the list in some capacity. As with the above mentioned guys, all 12 guys listed here played high school ball in Missouri.
I know that Blackwell, Moore, Wilder & Galbreath all played in the NFL. So the top ten RB’s list for Mizzou would be dominated by guys that played high school ball in Missouri.
From Moore & Staggers to Blackwell, Janes, Olivo, & West, their playing days at Mizzou span 30 years.
My question, or observation, is why are there not similar examples in recent years?
