FROM THE SID:

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – No. 15 Mizzou Softball (20-4) extended its winning streak to five games as it finished a three-game series sweep at New Mexico State on Sunday. The Tigers’ 5-1 victory over the Aggies wrapped up an impressive weekend in Las Cruces, N.M and marked their third five-game winning streak this season.

Sophomore Paige Lowary (Dallas Center, Iowa) was sensational against New Mexico State this weekend, earning all three wins with a sparkling 0.48 ERA in 14.2 innings pitched. Lowary limited the Aggies to a .207 average while striking out 20 batters.

Mizzou hit .330 (33-for-100) as a team with 28 runs scored, three doubles and seven home runs. Senior Emily Crane (Troy, Mo.) led the team with seven hits (.583 AVG) while adding two home runs and five RBI. Redshirt senior Sami Fagan (Dunnellon, Fla.) was also a force at the plate, hitting .556 (5-for-9) with two home runs and seven RBI.

The Tigers jumped on the scoreboard first with a second inning RBI single by freshman Regan Nash (Camden Point, Mo.). Junior Chloe Rathburn (Mission Viejo, Calif.) extended Mizzou’s early lead with a two-run home run in the third inning. The blast marked Rathburn’s fourth straight game with a hit and seventh consecutive game with at least one RBI.

Mizzou scored a run for the third consecutive frame in the fourth inning as Crane destroyed a solo home run to right field. It marked Crane’s fifth home run of the season and set a new single-season home run total in her career.

Sophomore Morgan Walters (Gainesville, Ga.) delivered a key insurance run in the seventh inning with an RBI base hit. New Mexico State knocked on the door all game long as it left 13 runners on base.

KEY MOMENT

Mizzou held a 1-0 advantage entering the top half of the third inning. Rathburn stepped up to the plate with a runner on and demolished a two-run home run that cleared the batting cages in left field. It was one of seven home runs in the series for the Tigers as three players hit multiple home runs (Fagan, Crane and Fleming with two apiece).
