My family and I were watching preliminary heats in men’s swimming at the Atlanta Olympics. When all the other swimmers in one heat were literally already out of the pool, one swimmer was still a full lap behind.
As we were snickering to our ourselves, the PA announcer informed the crowd that the athlete was ahead of pace to set a national and Olympic record for his Middle Eastern country. The crowd cheered him on and he set the record.
