OFF TOPIC ST. LOUIS CARDINAL's SEASON THREAD

Just because you keep saying the same stupid thing over and over doesn’t make it true. Go finance a billion dollar purchase with a declining demographic and rough labor environment and tell me there is no risk. If you can’t understand the most basic principles of finance and business, I’m sorry for you. What else can I help you understand?

J
You keep saying “declining demographic” yet the sport keeps getting larger tv contracts and every time an owner sells they make way more than they paid….

apparently you can’t understand that the “basic principles of finance and business” doesn’t apply to Sports franchises. Which is why I call you simple

go back to negotiating for cheap labor for your businesses and being a test we all know you are Joey….

You are literally too stupid to argue with. If there are other things you need help understanding, please let me know.

Again the only one who looks stupid has been you and your simple minded thought process. Yeah I’m not going to ask for understanding from the same little twat that’s most likely in his mid 40’s and still thinks having a “shocker” photo as his avatar.

looks like your still in your grade school mindset their little Joey. Sit back down grownups are talking about grownup things.

so even though I’ve provided numerous examples of Sports owners getting MORE than what they purchased when they sell which proves the ROI is HIGHER and there is ALWAYS buyers lined up for these franchises you still believe this lie you tell yourself that it’s a “risky” investment and these “owners” are poor. It’s laughable how dumb you are when it comes to SPORTS business

Yeah, you are obviously a financial genius. You’re embarrassing yourself with your lack of understanding of the business world, but keep tooting your horn about how smart you are.

Enjoy your blue collar job.

Shouldn’t you be sweeping up after your shift, rather than posting on PowerMizzou. I’m just trying to help you keep your job.

Is there something wrong, in your mind, with being blue collar or doing shift work? Or are you just trying to scratch an itch?

Not picking a fight, just can't tell if you're being nasty specifically to Herbs, or something else.

He’s an idiot that’s it. He usually gets roasted on the OT I guess he thought the lair was safer for him

he thinks because I call out the billionaire owners I apparently work a janitorial job. Weird assumption but par for his aarogant attitude. I mean again this is a guy whose in his mid 40’s with a “shocker” avatar dude peaked in highschool

So why do you think they used scabs before but wouldn’t do it now?
Bump for @brosept
Just wondering why you’re so sure the owners won’t hire replacement players like they did in rhe ‘80s. There are lots of MiLB players who would love a shot at the big leagues and would accept the owners’ latest offer. What’s to prevent the owners from saying “we have it the ol’ college try, but it didn’t work, so we’re going with replacement players this year”. They did it before, what’s to prevent them from doing it again?

Not one bit. I respect blue collar workers immensely. Me and my siblings are the first generation on either side of my family tree that didn’t grow up as farmers.

I just have a problem when an obvious blue collar worker, who has no idea how finance or business works, tries to pretend he understands anything about it.

I’m actually much older than that. I just have a sense of humor and enjoy helping people like you, who know so little about how the world actually works, understand things.

Rather than cry like a bitch, you should just thank me for helping you, and move on. There is nothing wrong with working a blue collar job. I hope you have a good pension.

Thanking you for what? How yo not understand sports business isn’t the same as the sweatshops you try to establish with anti union propaganda?

so you admit your in your forties and still think the “shocker” is funny. No surprise your don’t understand this since like your humor your education matches the highschool level

Obvious blue collar? Didn’t realize corporate sales is now “blue collar” now. What’s next Joey going to challenge me to a fist fight then back down when you get a time and location like you did to numbahs ?

Reading comprehension, in addition to business and finance, obviously isn’t your strong suit. I clearly stated that I’m much older than that. Now finish sweeping and go home.

Yes the much older gentleman who still thinks a highschool level joke is funny and doesn’t know the difference between sports business and regular business in “embarrassing me”….get a mirror my man.

also you want to claim “reading comprehension” when you missed not a blue collar worker in fact the opposite as a corporate salesman that understands finance and business just fine seeing as I’m the top sales rep in my team the last 3 years. I just know the difference between sports business and commercial business.

By ”corporte sales” you mean asking your customers if they want wax on their car after its washed?

Props to you.

3 major reasons:
1) Top prospects are in line to make mega exponentially more due to the current system compared to the top prospects from the 80’s. They have significantly more long term to lose than the guys in the 80’s. They have no incentive to rock the boat. And without top prospects, nobody wants to see essentially the best slow pitch softball players in the world.
2) The financial difference between putting a crap product on the field in the 80’s vs in 2022 is much bigger than it was then. They are better off playing 120 games once they come to an agreement, than they were In the 80’s playing scabs.
3) The players make so much more now than they did then, so it really is less of a “threat” to the players than it was then. Which player on the Cardinals is going to lose their house if they don’t play baseball this year? Now compare that to the 80’s and ask yourself if the players can more afford to allow the owners to embarrass themselves and the game by letting the owners play scabs compared to the business/labor dynamics in the 80’s. Players can sit it out and laugh without really hurting in 2022. Not the case for a much larger percentage of players in the 80’s.

Interesting words from the Yankees owner below: https://www.stltoday.com/sports/col...cle_792c5f32-3ffe-5a95-8453-97128e536b24.html

New York Yankees owner Randy Levine is as perplexed and frustrated by his ongoing lockout of the player as anybody.

He is one of the sport’s most respected executives, so his perspective on the situation carries weight.
Who’s to blame in this mess?

“Players, owners, executives,” he said
Monday during an appearance on “The Michael Kay Show” in New York. “It’s a really bad look, especially with what’s going on in the world and we all have to try really a lot harder to fix this, because we all look pretty bad.”

Refreshing to finally hear this take. I could not agree more.

When you want to screw something up next to the finish line, call in the Mets

Because their team will be affected by the luxury tax. They want it higher. Cant really blame them tbh

Truth be told, I liked the LOLMETS gif and looked for a flimsy excuse to post it.

Maybe Cohen brute forces a championship out of them with sheer cash, but I wouldn't be surprised if he goes through an early Steinbrenner phase where his teams underperform until he takes a step back. The Dodgers had everything you need on paper to win a World Series with their current ownership group and it still took them almost a decade.

Im not sure why they'd get 2/3rds of the votes if the executive committee is against it. Whats the point of having one if you dont take their advice?

Only reason I can think of is if there's an imbalance between the representation of the committee and the team reps in some way. I don't think that is the case. The exec committee has some high salary players on it but AFAIK not disproportionate to the team reps.

I also don't know how frequently vote results like that happen in average union shops. Obviously it happens but what is the likelihood?
