As a former native of St. Louis (South side, Glendale, and Kirkwood) I feel I have an insight into the situation. The people of the Lou do not feel they are part of the state of Missouri but an entity that ends at the Missouri bridge in St. Charles and in Chesterfield. This provential idea has been passed down from generation to generation. This has also been prevelent in other urban such as Chicago and other large cities. The fact that the majority of Missouri's resident live on the extreme boundaries has led to lack of interest in Mizzou. People in Southwest Missouri in many instances are closer to Arky than Mizzou.
In the 70's Onion Henderson and others labeled Mizzou a racist school and this unfortanately was demonstarted by the KA's playing Dixie at a Mizzou game.
How do we change this negative attitude-persistence. Look up what Dabo Sweeney did at Clemson or other successful coaches. I don't think starting out 1-5 after a 4-8 season helped the recruiting process. Certainly the St. Louis athlete has an inflated ego and in some instances may be getting additional incentives to enroll at an outside school ($-really you don't think OU cheats?).
I agree that a turnaround will require work but we all can help with this process. Stop the negative attitude and bitching about Mizzou. Stop the Mizzou-Luck statements. Love your University and spread the knowledge of the great time and education you got there!
