Just talked to a deparment spokesman. He signed a two year deal.
Year 1: $800,000 base salary, $200,000 retention bonus paid on February 15 of 2022, another $200,000 retention bonus paid on July 15 of 2022
Year 2: $1 million base salary, $200,000 retention bonus paid on December 15 2022
So he is guaranteed $800K, then will get $400K more if he is here for the start of the 2022 season, during which he will make $1 million and get another $200K assuming he is still here on December 15
All told, if he is here through December 15 2022, he will make $2.4 million over 2 years
