Have been tracking things and talking to people last night and this morning. As visitors start to leave campus, wanted to kind of update you on where things stand. This will almost be a mini Sunday morning Chamber.
*Justin Crawford committed to West Virginia last night. This came as a surprise to us and the public because we were expecting a signing day decision. From what I've been told by multiple people, it didn't come as a surprise to Missouri. In fact, it came in part because of Missouri. Our information (and I know what the reaction is going to be, but you guys subscribe to this site for information and this is what I've been told by multiple people) is that some time this week Mizzou decided to move on. Things didn't go real well on the visit. I'm told the decision isn't about the kid's ability on the football field. Basically, he wasn't seen as a good fit for the program. Again, I know what the reaction will be and people will say it's sour grapes, etc. Just passing on the information that I've received.
*Kobe Jones visited Mizzou last week. Brian has told you all along he doesn't view Missouri as a favorite here. It would be a surprise if he were a Tiger.
*We are confident that Missouri had three uncommitted visitors this weekend (not including Cale Garrett who committed last night). Those three are Brendan Scales, Josh Jacobs and Arkeem Byrd. Here's our info as of this morning on that trio (which we believe to be the top three targets on the board for the Tigers at this time). All three are expected to be signing day decisions.
Scales--I've had a source tell me there's no way he flips, he is solid to Bama and taking a visit out of respect to Odom and the new staff. I've also had a couple of sources tell me they think he flips. So I don't have any idea who knows. One person told me Scales definitely got "the red carpet treatment" on Saturday. I believe there will likely be an announcement on Wednesday. If that is the case PowerMizzou will have someone there.
Jacobs--He visited Missouri Friday. He left at some point Saturday, thought I'm not sure when. Am told he didn't get to Alabama until late Saturday evening, so he will be in Tuscaloosa most of the day today. Looks like Missouri or Bama here. The talk from Oklahoma is that the kid wants to get out of the state. We'll attempt to reach him tonight or tomorrow and I'm sure our Bama site will too, but he may be on radio silence following these trips.
Byrd--Brian told you all last week that Byrd has been the top target at running back all along. Missouri would definitely like to grab him. Colorado State, Georgia Tech, Minnesota and Wake Forest were his other visits. We know less about his situation than the other guys right now. We'll try to track down more info today.
There were also some committed kids on campus. The only real situation to watch is that with Tre Williams. Obviously nothing is official until pen hits paper, but multiple sources have told me this week they expect Williams to sign with Missouri. DeMarkus Acy was tweeting from Kansas last night, as I posted on the board. We had heard some talk that Acy might take an official to Lawrence this weekend and it looks like that happened. Apparently Acy's high school coach and Jayhawk coach David Beatty have known each other for a long time. Whether that means the coach is doing Beatty a favor or whether they have a legitimate shot to flip Acy, I'm not sure. But my info is still that Missouri is in pretty good shape and it would be a pretty big surprise if he signed elsewhere on Wednesday.
Brian is going to be chasing down interviews with as many of the visitors as we can get. He's supposed to talk to Dominic Collins here in just a couple of hours. We'll update you guys throughout the day, and really all the way through Wednesday, with the information we come across.
One other note I forgot: As we've been telling you for a couple weeks, Signing Day is Wednesday, but this may very well be a year where that's not the end of the class. Missouri should have a spot or two it can do something with post-signing day, so don't be shocked to see developments past then, whether it's transfers, unsigned prospects or whatever.
