NEW STORY TEN THOUGHTS FOR MONDAY MORNING

We obviously can’t complain too much because Brian Smith always has Mizzou in the top 10 it feels like. But his teams can never get completely over the hump. They truly never wrestle to their full potential at the NCAAs. I think Rocky Elam is a really good example of that. So much talent but can never finish the job

I don’t know more then what I learn on here. What has happened to the team this last 1/3 of the season? We kept hearing about some health issues but other than that it’s been a tailspin?

Brutal flu bug hit the team just about 3 weeks ago, and once that hits a team that works so closely together it took its toll. Add on to that a guy who has been very good all year got assaulted and missed several weeks, and it has been a really tough stretch.

You can tell that some of the guys are having some lasting effects from the illness, but fortunately 9/10 qualified for nationals and can hopefully all be 100%. But I’d say anything in the top 10 would be good at this point, which is a bummer because it could have been a great year.

I still don’t get why beiser is gone, it’s even more obnoxious with dfr gone.

Sure he wasn’t amazing, but fine for the resources given.

This is just embarrassing

I don’t know much about Mizzou baseball but it reminds me of Vanderbilt in football. Just in over its head playing in the SEC with funds and support. When u have the cardinals and royals on both sides of the state, people generally don’t think of Mizzou baseball.

Basketball just totally baffles me. Relatively good stadium, strong backing, money appears to be there when needed but just underperforms most of the time. The program has been a dumpster fire since we got into the SEC.

Since we got into the SEC 11 years ago, we have had 4 ADs (soon to be 5) and 4 basketball coaches.

I'm a Mizzou fan and a baseball fan. What more does the baseball team need to compete? I don't mean this in anyway dismissive but would really like to know. What people mean when they say we are so out gunned in baseball?

As an observing supporter. They have decent facilities. No, the stands aren't as big as other SEC school but they are relatively attractive. I bet if they won more they'd fill the stands and be able to justify an upgrade. I haven't been inside, but my son has and he is highly impressed with their indoor facilities. I'm just not sure what more they could physically need to play competitive baseball.

There are thousands of baseball players. I'm just surprised we aren't able to capitalize on finding kids that want to compete in the best baseball conference. (If you tell me they need more money to support high-level recruiting I'd buy that.)

But I also don't give Beiser a pass, for lack of support. He had a chance to make a product and it wasn't improving. It may be a tough job but my take is you have to find someone who can thrive in it or continue looking.

Dead last in attendance for the SEC and I would also assume (no real intel just assumption) dead last in NIL for the baseball program.

I don't want to be rude but, WIN. They may be last in SEC attendance and they may also be last in WINs.

Bieser's last 3 years they were 28-62 in SEC games. When fans can assume you'll lose two out of three each weekend it isn't an intriguing entertainment option.

Basketball has proven, fans support winners. I've been to games this year and will go more. The product on the field is depressing. I will not blame fans or the size of the stadium for the performance against directional schools. Be competitive and be entertaining and people will come.

Decent facilities? They have the worst baseball field in the SEC by a wide margin. Name me another program that’s so poor that they only turfed the infield and forgot about the outfield? The parking lot is a disaster and you can literally only get to the stadium by going a certain direction.

It’s easy to say “just win.” There are a ton of other factors that go into winning.

I’m sorry I don’t think a single player chooses the school based on the fan parking experience.

My question was, what realistically can they add in support that changes the product on the field?

I guess turf outfield could.

Of course it doesn’t. But I’m going to assume you’ve never played baseball before in front of a packed house. The atmosphere is different. Players thrive off of it. It’s genuinely the worst thing ever when 1st pitch is thrown and there’s 20 people there. I’ve watched every home game this season either in person or on tv and to see maybe 8-10 people in the stands behind home plate is terrible. Watch any other SEC game, you won’t find an empty seat most of the times.

Players pay attention to that shit. And they all talk. They all know each other, for the most part.

I’ve never seen a more pathetic recognition of a national championship than what our baseball program does for 1954 and it could be fixed for $1,500.

That’s the absolute start of our ballpark atmosphere and no one ever mentions it.

It’s like the Royals listing their worlds championships in small print on the Fellowship of Christian Athletes building across I-70.

The most impressive streak in Mizzou athletics history came to an end last night. Missouri finished fourth in the Big XII wrestling championships in Tulsa.

The softball team had a streak of its own stopped on Sunday. The Tigers lost 4-0 to Auburn in the series finale, ending a seven-game winning streak.
Coupled with the BBall season for the men and women... it is now clear that the sky is falling... ;)

There really isn’t a reason to continue this but just like I don’t blame fans for not attending bad basketball games I won’t blame the fans, or the stadium, for the lack of attendance.

Looking like crap against Northern Kentucky is just like losing to BC in football. It sets the tone for the season. Fans, who might go, decide to spend their money, and time, in other ways.

And the fans aren’t going because on field the product isn't good not because the signs in right field have faded into the pavilion. 😂

And this comes from a place of support and hope for better days.

My point is Cardinal legends on the left field wall and world championship flags over right center add to the overall fan experience at Busch stadium.

Are they the reason people buy tickets to Redbird games? No but would why would we hide Mizzou’s national championship? It’s mind boggling.

I mention the parking lot, something fans actually have to use. And you mention faded signs in RF. Of course you don’t get it.

Yes, the on field product needs to be better. But it’s a two way street, that clearly you don’t see. An investment needs to be made. It’s virtually impossible to roll out of bed and expect things to be different when you get next to nothing from the university.

You can “just win” all you want. But it’s not 2006 anymore. Times are completely different now. Exhibit A being basketball season. Don’t spend money to get good players, result: 0-18 conference season.

It still does not feel real that they went winless in conference play this season. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to fully grasp that.

Now we’re talking! Money for players! Of course the school can’t do that, based on NIL rules. That’ll be up to the baseball leadership, not the “university”. But if you want to tell me we need money for talent, I’ll buy that.

If the baseball staff needs more financial support for recruiting. If they don’t have the technology to scout opponents. I’d accept any of those.

You can leave the “you don’t get it” to yourself. Just because I don’t agree that walking up hill to attend a game doesn’t impact the experience any more than a faded sign doesn’t mean I don’t get it.

I’ve seen plenty of baseball. Some with large crowds and some with small. Like it or not fans spend time and money to have fun. Make a fun experience and they will come. I’d say asking for anything else is “not getting it”.

Time will tell if it is horrible or not. A year ago, most who commented here were convinced Drink's contract was horrible.
The buyout was designed to keep Gates from leaving. No one wants Dennis Gates to be their head coach and by the time that would be possible again it will take upping his contract again. All the risk is on Mizzou, it’s an awful contract.

It’s the cost of doing business when you’re one of the worst P6 basketball programs in the country over the past decade.

Same with football where they’ll owe Drink $35M if they wanted to fire him but he only owes $5M if another school poaches him.
