The rest of the Big 12 won’t want to be in purgatory through 2025. Texas did the right thing by telling the Big 12 that they are planning on living up to their contractual obligations, then leaving. Force the Big 12 to also be interested in an early exit and a discounted exit fee.

Prediction: Each school gives up their conference distribution this year plus $25-30M apiece, which would be about half what they would be liable for in leaving 3 years early. The 16 team SEC starts up next year

Even if the Big 12 plays hardball, it’s really not that big of a sacrifice to play 3 more seasons after this one in the Big 12. Won’t be long until they are recruiting as an SEC school under that scenario while the rest of the Big 12 is recruiting as G5 schools, which should give them a dominant position in 2024 in the unlikely event the Big 12 won’t compromise reasonably
