The Chamber is back as Missouri’s camp season is in full swing. We have the news and notes from the start of this hectic time, as well as some other football and basketball recruiting tidbits.

As always, the Chamber is premium information for PowerMizzou.com subscribers. Please keep discussion of the Chamber contained to the Tigers’ Lair.

-- First of all, Missouri’s first camp took place Wednesday afternoon in Columbia. There were probably about 75 kids there and if the Chamber was a bettor, the bet is there wasn’t a Mizzou offer in attendance (at least among 2017 kids). The possible exception is Tim Frizzell, who we wrote about on Wednesday evening. Physically, he was clearly one of the top two or three kids in the camp and he tested very well.

We talked to some sources who have seen him play in Tennessee and they told us Frizzell is a good high school player, but someone who doesn’t leap off the page. And from our guys who have broken down his film, you hear the same thing. Frizzell is a running back in high school, but probably projects better as a defensive player in college, which could account for the difference. The other thing is that players improve. He’s going to camp with a number of SEC schools this summer. We don’t know if Frizzell ends up as an SEC player, but we’d bet good money he has D1 offers in the next month or so.

The Tigers also went to Belton, TX last night for the Mary Hardin Baylor Mega Camp. We know that Ryan Walters, Barry Odom and Jon Cooper were in attendance for Missouri for sure. Believe that Josh Heupel was supposed to be there as well, and perhaps even more. We had Steve Godich covering the camp for us. I’ll pass on his info in a minute, but first off want to kind of explain the craziness of these camps. There were 427 campers there last night and at least 15 college coaching staffs in attendance. Registration was allowed on site only, so there was no pre-registration list and even college coaches weren’t sure who would be there beforehand. In other words, it’s pretty much impossible for us to tell you who was there exactly. We’ll try to do some digging, but it won’t be easy.

The camps in Atlanta and Illinois might be a little bit simpler for the guys we have covering to be able to single out certain prospects because there are only a handful of schools involved. It will be quite a bit easier to kind of see who the Mizzou coaches are showing interest in. But on Thursday in Belton, that wasn’t so simple. With that, here’s the quick report from Steve Godich:

“The Tigers kicked off the Mary Hardin-Baylor Mega Camp at University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton, Texas. 427 high school football players participated in the camp on Thursday evening.

Missouri coaches seemed most interested in watching defensive players, particularly defensive backs. The first hour of camp was used to test speed and explosiveness; the second half of camp was devoted to position drills for each group.

Satellite camps have been an interesting topic in college football; some coaches have voiced their opinion for the camps to be outlawed by NCAA rules. For some kids, these camps are their only opportunity to be discovered by college programs.

Edward McFloyd, a rising senior safety from Waco High School said he currently doesn’t have any big offers, but these camps are his opportunity to learn and get noticed. McFloyd said he’s there to learn whatever he can to get better and do whatever is asked of him to get an opportunity.

Satellite camps are an opportunity for players like McFloyd to get exposure from programs looking to develop talent. Many of these prospective players can’t afford to take unofficial visits to schools so they rely on these camps to meet coaches and put themselves on the radar.

This was the first of five camps in the Mega Camp sessions. There are camps in San Antonio and Houston on Friday. The last two camps are in Tyler and Dallas on Saturday. PowerMizzou.com will be in attendance in Houston and Dallas.”

-- Some other recruiting notes: Missouri will hold camp at Kirkwood High School on Sunday. We would expect 2019 Vianney wide receiver Cameron Coleman to at least make an appearance. The sophomore-to-be already has a Mizzou offer and impressed at the Rivals Camp Series in Kansas City. On Thursday, he also picked up a Nebraska offer. He’ll be one of the most highly sought after kids in the state in that class.

Cameron Brown, a 2018 receiver from CBC, hasn’t played a down of varsity football yet (the Cadets have been kind of loaded lately) but he’s already receiving major interest. He picked up his first offer from Iowa State (for the record, ISU has offered more than 300 players in 2017 and Matt Campbell seems to be offering about 60% of the country) on Thursday following a satellite camp the Cyclones, Cornhuskers and others attended at Lindenwold on Wednesday. Brown is a guy that is definitely on Missouri’s radar. With a good performance on Sunday, he could definitely add a Mizzou offer to the ISU one.

Most of the big names in the area should make an appearance at the St. Louis or Kansas City camp (which is next Tuesday). We’ll be at both and have complete coverage.

-- Taking a quick step back from camp coverage, we spoke with 2017 Baltimore (Md.) defensive end Victor Dimukeje on Thursday. He was recently bumped from two stars to three. He also has 36 offers -- 14 from Power-5 schools and six of the eight Ivy League schools. He’s held most of these offers from some time, but in talking to him, it was interesting to find out how the Missouri offer came about.

“I reached out to one of their recruiting coaches,” Dimukeje said, “and a few days later, he said they were going to watch my film as a staff. I talked to Coach Shipp then, and he told me (that they offered). Boy, it was a special feeling.”

So, this wasn’t Missouri uncovering Dimukeje. This was the recruit reaching out to Missouri. Dimukeje explained why he went out of his way to get his film in front of Missouri’s staff.

“I know the great d-line program in the past years, and I know that’s a great group of d-linemen that have gone through there,” Dimukeje said. “I just wanted to have a chance and opportunity to go to that school.”

Missouri is in great shape with Dimukeje, needless to say. He said he hopes to visit this summer, but it may be a bit trick coming from Baltimore. He said he has a top-5 in his mind right now (which he didn’t want to name) and will just commit to a school when it feels right.

Reading the tea leaves here, if Dimukeje gets on campus this summer, there’s a very good chance he commits to Missouri.
