FOOTBALL RECRUITING
- A bit of a light week of news and updates as Missouri is on spring break, but here are a few football recruiting headlines we'll recap:
* We are now on commit watch for four-star QB target Matt Zollers, who announced he will make his college decision on April 4th. Zollers was back at Missouri for a mid-week visit last week and will finish off visits to Pitt, Penn State, and Georgia before making his decision. The Bulldogs will get the final visit on April 2nd and many feel this is a Georgia/Mizzou battle at this time. Although, you can't rule out Penn State as well - the local school he's visited the most throughout his recruiting process.
The QB recruiting storyline for Georgia is interesting. We have been told that Zollers is a take for the Bulldogs, but at the same time they are making a huge push for Julian Lewis, the No. 1 player in the 2025 class that is currently in their backyard, but committed to USC.
Also, Rivals250 QB Ryan Montgomery is another QB Georgia is recruiting and just set an official visit with Georgia for June 21st. South Carolina and Florida will also get officials from him.
With all that said, will all those factors surrounding Georgia's QB recruitment play a part in Zollers ultimate decision. It will be an interesting dynamic to follow and we'll provide updates as we inch closer. Sources around Missouri's program like where the Tigers sit, but ultimately nobody will know for sure until the visits are complete.
* Rivals.com analyst Marshall Levenson caught up with Rivals250 WR Corey Simms recently, who said his top two schools are Missouri and USC. He has officials set with both programs and also added Nebraska to his summer OV list earlier this week.
* Top100 WR target Jayvan Boggs backed off his Ohio State commitment on Tuesday night. The four-star prospect was recently at Missouri for the Tigers' spring game (CLICK HERE FOR THAT UPDATE). He also took recent trips to UCF and will now head to Georgia this weekend and Notre Dame is also in the mix as well.
Currently, Missouri has four WR targets expected to come in for officials this summer in Dillon Alfred, Corey Simms, Emmanuel Choice, and Isaiah Mozee. If Boggs gets added to the list, that will be quite a list to choose from.
Missouri believes it has an excellent shot at Boggs as of now. But the immediate visit to Georgia is certainly worth watching.
* ICYMI, we profiled one of those WR visitors in Emmanuel Choice - CLICK HERE
* Here is another OV profile on 4-star RB target Jamarion Morrow - CLICK HERE
* CLICK HERE for an update with 3-star CB target Zadian Gentry, who recently visited Missouri and is cousins with running backs coach Curtis Luper.
* We also provided an update with 3-star OL Nolan Davenport, who visited back in March and will be back at Missouri this summer for an official visit. He also has officials with Cincinnati, Virginia Tech, and Michigan State set currently.
Davenport is one of five offensive line targets that Mizzou has set for summer officials currently, others include Michael Fasusi (May 31st), Lamont Rogers (May 31st), Andrew Babalola (May 31st), and Jack Lange (June 7th)
* Speaking of Jack Lange, his summer official visit schedule looks like this - Wisconsin (May 31st), Missouri (June 7th), Michigan (June 14th), and Nebraska (June 21st).
*Missouri's ideal haul following the June official visits would look something like this:
Matt Zollars
Corey Simms
Jack Lange
Michael Fasusi
Isaiah Mozee
Jayvan Boggs
Dawson Merritt
Carius Curne
Christian Thatcher
Jason King
Lamont Rogers
Daeden Hopkins
Andrew Babalola
Jason Dowell
Dierre Hill
Dillon Alfred
And before you say "But what about this guy? Why isn't he there? I'd rather have that other guy!" this is an approximation. Sure there could be a name you'd add or subtract. But this is our list of players we feel like would make a pretty much utopian list of high school commitments entering the season for Mizzou. We are projecting a class of about 20 players. Get all of the ones on this list in the summer and you go into the season with just four or five spots left. Is it realistic to get all 16 on this list? Maybe not. But they've all visited or will visit Mizzou so it's not just pulling fantasy names out of a hat either.
