During the hiring process, I was told how much Cuonzo will kill it in St. Louis if he was hired. I understood the assumption but I didn’t understand the magnitude of what people were saying when they were telling me about it.
I’ve been in gyms when Beal, McLemore, Tatum, Gordon we’re being recruited by the big dogs. When Coach K, Roy Williams, Cal walked in the gym it was like a double feature film. People had one eye on a game and the other on “holy crap Coach X is here.”
It wasn’t like that with Kim, and I don’t think it was ever like that with Suitcase or Carleton.
It is like that with Cuonzo. Maybe not in other cities like it is with the big dogs but for sure in St. Louis.
When he walks in a building during a game, you hear the whispers. You see the phones come out. It is like the CEO just came in to check on things and everyone wants to get on their best behavior and put their best foot forward.
This is more than lip service, it is showing in recruiting. The table has been flipped, it is almost like kids don’t decide if Mizzou is good enough for them anymore locally,, but Mizzou decides if they are good enough.
