There was discussion on ESPN's control over most of the college football landscape, including the CFP, during a segment of The Ref, ESPN Radio Athens.
NBC, CBS, Fox, Apple, Amazon, and others have shown a great deal of interest to bid on bowl games, The CFP games, etc.
Several of the oldest Bowls in College football, The Sun, Gator, Citrus, Liberty, Independence, and Holiday Bowls, among others, are also looking at potentially signing deals outside of the current bowl structure, and outside of ESPN Events/ESPN TV Rights
Apple and Amazon, could become massive players in some of these Bowls.
One question that was discussed, what happens if Amazon and or Apple decide to out-right acquire Bowl games, as ESPN Events has done?
Could Apple or Amazon, offer more money to colleges as an invite to their games?
Many of the conference tie-in agreements end after the 2025 season.
Pure speculation, lets say at the end of 2025, the #1 and #2 Teams in the CFP playoff poll are offered 10 million each to play in the Gator Bowl "Sponsored by Amazon"
or 10 million each to play in the Citrus Bowl "Sponsored by Apple"
Cash is king, and it appears we might be headed for some interesting times.
