I was told the Mizzou appeal is costing $8 million. First, why didn't I go to law school?
I know I'm cynical, but how is this anything other than a Kangaroo court? Are our attorney's really going to show some reason, legally, why our penalty should be lower? Isn't our defense basically, "the penalty doesn't fit the crime?"
I see two scenarios:
1) the NCAA WANTS a harsh penalty to send a message. If that is the case, our appeal is likely to fail.
2) the NCAA had to penalize Mizzou harshly based upon the existing table and are looking for a reason to reduce the penalty. This is our only hope
Finally, can the NCAA reduce or penalty and save face? I could see them denying our appeal just so they don't look bad, like a ref not wanting to overturn his own call. It's a pretty shallow bunch.
