The path to the 4 seed (even if we lose today)

There is still a very viable path to the 4 seed, even if we lose either today or at Vanderbilt.

First, let’s assume we lose today and win out. We root for Auburn, Tenn and UK to win out. They’re your top 3 seeds.

Under that scenario, we’d finish 10-8. Here are the teams with 8 or less losses not named Auburn, Tenn, UK or Mizzou:

MSU: SC, Tenn, @LSU
Arkansas: @Bama, Auburn, @Mizzou
Florida: Auburn, @Bama, vs UK
Bama: Arkansas, Florida, @A&M
Note: all of the above are currently 8-7
LSU (7-8): @UGA, @SC, MSU

Everyone else has 9 or more losses, including A&M.

We are rooting for bolded teams. If the bolded teams win, we are the only 10-8 team, whether we lose to UK or Vanderbilt. (EDITED: Bama could have one loss only and we’d still get the 4.)

None of the bolded results would be crazy. The underlined games are insurance games for us. For example, we need LSU to only lose one more, but we need them to beat MSU pretty badly. Doesn’t matter who they lose to between road games against Georgia and SC, but I bolded UGA because it’s a more likely loss than @SC. But either would work.

Anyway, take a look at these results. It’s very possible. As for today’s games, we need:

Georgia to beat LSU at home (important but not necessary)
SC to win at MSU (would be nice, although unlikely)
Bama to beat Arkansas at home, although this game could actually go either way, rooting-wise.
Auburn to beat Florida on the road (necessary)

So we’re big fans of Georgia and Auburn today.
