The Missouri/kansas rivalry certainly has a myriad of twists and turns ... and a ton of confusion (?) on the western side of the state. If you visit a store that sells sports apparel, you will find a greater number of kU items than Missouri items. At the PowerMizzou/Juengling tailgate last Thursday @JHamilton23 asked me about the rivalry and queried as to why it is so strong. I tried my level best to give a complete and unbiased answer without trying to influence JH on the question of right or wrong in the debate and rivalry. I don't think he really walked away satisfied with the answer.
Lest I digress. What in the hell was with the color guard at Arrowhead last night? As the color guard presented flags for the national anthem, there was Old Glory, the Missouri State flag AND the kansas State flag also. WTF. Why in the world would that happen? Arrowhead, the Chiefs organization and all the tax proceeds are all appropriated within the boundaries of the State of Missouri, are they not? Why in the name of Harry Truman, would the kansas State flag be presented in the state of Missouri during the national anthem? I could guess that it is a bouquet thrown to the kansas natives that support the Chiefs, but I think that is silly. What else could be the answer?
If the aforementioned reasoning might be true, what about the Royals much less the Chiefs, does every Kansas City sports team fly the flag of our western neighbors (nemesis) during the national anthem? Is the kansas flag flown on a flagpole for constant display? This is a sincere question. I really just do not get it. As a resident of St. Louis, if the Cardinals wanted to acknowledge fans visiting from other states in support of the team, the Cardinals would need to present about twelve different state flags because they have such a broad base of fans. The national anthem at Busch Stadium would have the Missouri flag as well as the Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Indiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana, Kansas, Nebraska and even Iowa flags.
So can anyone with any certainty, tell me why the kansas State flag was displayed last night before the Chiefs game? As a reveler in the MU/kU feud, I found it insulting.
