The team is not executing the base offense at a high level. E.g., we’re an outside zone team but half the time we run it, the OL misses a block or the qb or rb make the wrong read. This is not a recipe for taking more chances.

Inherently, taking chances increases the probability of costly errors. If you’re screwing up the basics, the solution is not to ratchet up the difficulty. That’s just going go lead to 3-and-outs and turnovers.

I think Drink is puckering up because he’s floored at how poor the execution is. The team isn’t getting to a position where you can take chances.

I think this is also partly why the D has no turnovers: going for picks and strips can be risky. Missing the opportunity often leads to more yards for the opponent. This offense needs the defense to play solidly and prevent scores, not create.

There’s plenty to complain about, but it’s not risk aversion. It’s poor OL and QB play four years in.
