Found out my best bud, my 10 year old retriever, would see his last day today.
Less than a week ago, no signs of anything out of the ordinary. Over the last few days, seemed a little lethargic. Still eating, just...blah. Not the first time he had acted strange. Generally would pass after a few days and he'd be humping our other dog and barking at mailmen.
Wife took him in this morning and was told the vet was concerned about some bloating in his abdomen.
Meanwhile, I was headed out of town to help my mother move some things out of her house.
I then started receiving updates that they had discovered a mass causing a hemorrhaged spleen requiring emergency surgery. Upon opening him up, they discovered cancer that had metastized everywhere throughout the stomach cavity.
By the time I got back the final dose had already been given. Last moment you remember is him jumping into the back seat of the car and sticking his head out the window. The next they're wheeling him in to say your goodbyes.
Some days...just really fvcking suck, man.
