These are some comparative stats for the three finalists for the Doak Walker Award.
Rushing Yards
1. Lew Nichols (Fr) CMU - 1,710
2. Kenneth Walker (Jr) Mich St. 1,614
3. Tyler Badie (Sr) Mizzou - 1,604
All Purpose Yards
1. Nichols - 2,010
2. Badie - 1,939
3. Walker - 1,703 (only had 89 yds receiving)
Total Touchdowns (Rushing and Receiving)
1. Walker - 19
2, Badie - 18
3. Nichols - 17
200 yd Rushing Games
1. Badie - 5 (Ark, SC, Vandy, NTX, CMU)
2. Nichols - 2 (Ball St, Kent St)
3. Walker - 2 (NW, Rutgers)
I think Badie has a decent chance when you compare all the RB stats.
-He is the only player in the nation to have five 200 yd games (and the first one in many years) with at least three of these teams are bowl bound
-He has done this while playing in the SEC the top conference in America
-He is a Sr. vs. Nichols (Fr) and Walker (Jr) - awards usually favor seniors
-He only finished 10 rushing yards behind Walker but has 236 more total yards and was a receiving threat in every game
Negative Points
-The sports writers slobbered all over Walker when MSU beat Michigan (a week later they laid an egg and lost to Purdue 40-29 and got blown out by OSU 56-7 but probably too late to hurt him)
-He plays on a winning team in a power conference that has been ranked in the Top Ten in polls
