First things first, we are obviously not sure if there is mutual interest. We also don’t know why he hasn’t been hired in the past.
That being said, scheme wise he is one of the best in football. I know we just got burnt hiring a coordinator, but Venables is years ahead experience wise. He runs some really innovative stuff defensively.
He would also hire a great OC, knowing the schemes that are the hardest to defend. But maybe my biggest reason for wanting him is talent identification. Obviously he won’t recruit and get his pick like at Clemson. But, he will identify the talent that we need. Perfect example is Isaiah Simmons. He saw a three star safety from Olathe, KS as a guy he wanted. Now Simmons is going to be a high draft pick. The exact type of kid Mizzou has to hit on in the recruiting process.
