I'm on some Big Ten forums, and a lot of those guys strongly feel that 20 is the max for a conference. They believe the Big Ten should take USC, UCLA, Washington, Oregon, Stanford, and then either Notre Dame or Cal. And then stop at 20. So what if that's it? What if it goes to 20 and then stops?

The SEC still would be at 16.

Then you'd have some kind of Big 12/Pac 12 combo, something like:

Cal
Arizona
Arizona State
Colorado
Utah
Washington State
Oregon State
kansas
Kansas State
Iowa State
Oklahoma State
Baylor
Texas Tech
TCU
Houston
BYU

and the ACC plus maybe a few teams

Clemson
Miami
Florida State
UNC
Duke
Virginia
Virginia Tech
NC State
Wake Forest
Georgia Tech
Louisville
Boston College
Pitt
Syracuse

So that's 30 teams on the outside of the B1G and SEC.

If the SEC and B1G only go to 20 I think we still end up with major functioning conferences, but the B1G and SEC will pay out more than twice what the ACC and Big Pac 12 pay, so one would assume those on the outside would be very eager to join the SEC if invited and we could basically have our pick.

What does the SEC do?

Do they stay at 16?

Do they go to 20?

Can the get ACC teams? Or is the ACC locked down?

If they add 4, which 4 do they add?

Max football and max SEC-ness:

Clemson
Florida State
Miami
Virginia Tech

Max markets:

UNC
Miami
Cal
Arizona State

Max academics:

Cal
UNC
Duke
Virginia

ACC not budging, Pac 12/Big 12 only, major flagships:

Colorado
Arizona
Cal
kansas or Utah

Or, the classic option:

UNC
Virginia
Florida State
Clemson or Miami

A lot of interesting options.
