.. militarily. They appear to be vastly ramping up their military spending and seem to be driving toward a huge regional conflict if not WWIII... in a year or two, not decades.
Their navy continues to grow incredibly fast as well as their technological innovation. I think that the U.S. still has the edge, but we are spread out across the world and China is laser-focused on the South China Sea and invading Taiwan. If China were able to take over Taiwan and their semi-conductor production, it would just be game over for the U.S. They are also actively starting to add bases all over the world as well. It could also be that they have a ton of hardware and people but very little actual battle experience or leadership. Who knows at this point how battle-ready they actually are.
We’ve been out-spending the rest of the world by so much for decades. It just confounds me that China appears to be catching up so quickly. Is our spending just that horribly inefficient?
