Why Heupel's offense won't be any faster than Henson's

Not saying it's necessarily a bad thing, but my premonition is that the offense won't be any faster than the past couple years.

If you recall, the report from the past two fall camps has been that the offense was getting plays off quickly, just as this year. But that was when the offense was familiar with the defensive sets and knew how to react. The truth is that both Henson and Heupel come from the "Meerkat Offense" school of coaching. In that, it is the coaches on the sideline who call the audibles, not the quarterbacks or center (for OLine shifts).

Now this isn't necessarily a bad thing, as we still have a young quarterback who wasn't very good at reading defenses last year, and a brand new center. But once they're facing defenses that they're nt used to seeing all the time, expect a whole lot of hurry up and wait, with a lot of time spent the LOS looking over to the sideline to get the signals. It may not rear it's head as much in WVU, as they'e been incorporating them into all of fall camp, but don't be surprised when we're once again getting down to 3, 4, and 5 seconds on the play clock.
