Friends asked, "you're going to Alabama? Why?"

Why the heck not? Do we expect to see us win? No. But why the heck not make this trip.

The first college game I remember watching on TV was the 1968 Gator Bowl. I was 13. My dad was pounding on the arm of his leather chair as Mizzou beat Bama. He couldn't believe what he was seeing.

In 1975, as a junior at Mizzou, in the sorority house living room, I watched Mizzou beat Bama on national TV. Campus was crazy.

This morning, the guys on Sports Center are laughing about our chances of even getting close. We're staying in a VRBO in Tuscaloosa. The house next door was Bear Bryant's first home here. I stopped counting at 40 when I tried to determine how many elephants decorate this one-bedroom apartment. The coffee cups are hound's tooth plaid. There's an autographed picture of the Bear next to my coffee. The bathroom towels are all Crimson. But the bedspread is gold and the bed skirt is black and gold, so....

We had Dreamland BBQ last night. We went to Winn-Dixie and the cashier laughed that we had come this far to see our team lose. We're going to tailgate on (their) Quad with my good friend and former sorority national president and her family and friends. We going to tour the new 40,000 square feet sorority house here. Then we're going to cheer for our Tigers and (try to) enjoy the experience of Mizzou first's game at Bryant-Denny. I'm excited for the Mizzou students who are making the bus trip here.

I'll be 75 the next time we play here. The last time we beat Bama was 1975. Why the heck not?
