Xavier is down this year. They have a first-year head coach. The game was at home. Mizzou was the more well-rested team.

This can still be considered a quality win, and it was nice to see Mizzou take advantage of those things.

Right now, they have three notable/quality wins. Oregon State, UCF, and Xavier are all currently in KenPom Top-100.

Mizzou jumped from 97 to 83 on KP after this win.

Maybe I’m getting ahead of myself, but find a way to beat Illinois and finish the non-con at 9-3. That would be non-conference with some respectable wins and no bad losses (Temple looks legit).

Let’s say they actually beat Illinois for once (Morehead State should be a gimme). That would be an undefeated December and a six-game winning streak heading into SEC play. Talk about some confidence for a young team.

Sure, the NCAA Tournament is a long shot, but conference play looks a lot more manageable than it did before.

Reality will set in and they’ll take some bumps and bruises, but maybe this team surprises some people (not sure to what extent) like it did last year after they were written off from MPJs injury.

Cuonzo Martin is the right coach to have to for this team to battle some adversity.
