“I think anytime you can take your product on the road to the city that you heavily evaluate (and) recruit, you want to put your best foot forward,” Drinkwitz said. “You want to be a window to what you really are. And I’m hopeful for an unbelievable crowd and a great atmosphere, and then, we have to do our part by executing.”

The aura of college football in St. Louis is something that former Mizzou coach Gary Pinkel also highlighted as an instrumental part of the recruiting landscape. Under Pinkel, the Tigers impressed with their ability to keep several of the state’s top recruits at home.
Those efforts faded under his successor Barry Odom, but Drinkwitz has an opportunity to build upon the foundation Pinkel laid many seasons ago.

“The biggest thing it does is it helps us recruit, especially when you can win big games in that kind of environment,” Pinkel said. “I remember when Jeremy Maclin committed here, we had so many guys start (committing); we didn’t lose an in-state player very often at all.”
