BASKETBALL What is Mizzou’s offensive strategy?

Transition offense remains solid, but once we set up in the half court, it’s pretty terrible. Earlier in the year, it seemed like we were doing a much better job at driving, kicking out for a good shot, or hitting someone who was cutting. Now, it seems like we make one pass, then go iso. If we do kick it out, it’s usually to someone who has been standing around for 15 seconds waiting for the pass on the perimeter. Defenses are not collapsing and have adjusted, but it doesn’t seem like we’ve adjusted.

Here are a few things:
1) What was the spread for Bama last night? I was going to bet them but I thought they played tonight. They won by 12.

2) Mizzou is a 2 point favorite for tonight's game, thoughts?

3) I can't believe Texas A&M is only favored by 3.5 at home against Florida. Texas A&M appears to be a much better team than Florida.

Post Game Thoughts

Well I have probably never been more wrong about something. With about ten minutes left I said man East is doing nothing put someone else in. That dude just straight up dominated the end of the game. Gholston hit some huge shots.

This game illustrates why you need a deep bench. Before the end of the game intentional fouls both teams had a similar amount. Maybe Arky had 3-4 more fouls. But because they only had 28 bench minutes your starters are going to foul out. Gholston had more bench minutes than their entire team. I am sure their fans will bitch about the refs. I think Hodge’s heel was up. I do think the free throws Kobe got was a bit of a gift. However, in a span of ten seconds they could have been called for two flagrant fouls the elbow to East head, and then a tackle better than their football team made all year. I found the officiating to be poor but poor in both directions.

Hodge is lost offensively, it is a shame. Hopefully he finds it, but big props to him. He is not hanging his head and letting it affect his defense.

It was nice to see Mosley. He was cold from deep but can get to the basket with ease and hits some big free throws in the first half come back. Played some good defense too. Give it to Gates he said all along Mosley would be back and help the team. That proved accurate tonight. Hopefully it stays that way because having Mosley and East that can get to the basket Will free up other deep shooters plus with both of their excellent passing abilities so dump offs for easy baskets.

This was about as mist win of a game you can have in Jan. With the best team in the country coming next it was hugely important not to drop this one and have a big time losing streak. Loving watching Mizzou basketball again.

BASKETBALL Running out of reasons to play Hodge

If he doesn’t have a chance to spot up for a wide open three he’s garbage. If he drives and any defender is within ten feet it’s a turnover. Maybe it’s just me but he seems like he’s had more than his fair share of plays that are plain stupid, like that elbow on Black. Ideally Mosley takes his minutes.

BASKETBALL QUICK THOUGHTS ON MIZZOU'S 79-76 WIN OVER ARKANSAS

-The Tigers came out and did exactly what they were supposed to coming out of the second half. That deeeeeep 3 from Nick Honor made every single person in the stadium lean back in their chair.

-Turnovers helped Arkansas jump back in front. Mizzou had just five throughout the entire first half. They had six at the 8:48 mark of the second -- the Razorbacks scored nine points off of those. Some of them were really careless, too. If the Tigers tightened it up in those moments, they might've hung onto their lead.

-It's the third game in a row D'Moi Hodge has had a bad shooting night. It makes me wonder if he's still sick at all. Credit to him for still finding ways to make an impact - he had a couple of touchdown finishes, made some clutch free throws and was still ferocious on the defense, making a game-saving block on Anthony Black and a game-winning charge. But they could've certainly used a 3-pointer or two from him.

-Sean East plays well every time Gabe says something critical of him, which is always funny. But he was huge for the team when they went down by double digits. He took over the game on offense. Mizzou needs him to play like that all the time.

-I wrote about DeAndre Gholston and his knack for timely buckets. That showed up again tonight.

-I feel absolutely awful for Kobe. The guy played his heart out. Hope he's ok.

-Mizzou is back in the win column and now has three wins over ranked teams. It takes a lot of pressure off of the Alabama game on Saturday and, really, the rest of the season. It helped that Arkansas had FOUR guys foul out, but a win's a win. The team is still undefeated when it scores 70.

Mizzou on its way back

To athletics relevancy. It feels like it’s been ages since Mizzou consistently had a bowl caliber football team and a Tourney caliber MBB squad, but Gates appears to be ahead of schedule and Drinkwitz is still recruiting at a higher level than we’re accustomed to seeing.

If the fans keep supporting the programs and showing out like this, Mizzou will be alright:
