I’m gonna die on the Drinkwitz hill for the next several years…who’s with me?

Fans are generally an instant reaction/gratification, impatient bunch, and I get it. I can be too. But I see the vision with Drinkwitz. Seems as if a lot of the fanbase is bailing on him and out on him. I’m just not at all there yet. Record aside, this team was better than last year’s team in my opinion.

Going into ‘23 I’m not naive enough to say it isn’t a massively important year for Drink. Improvements have to be made to the offense, both in the staff and on the roster. But I do see the vision and I did see progress. I’m gonna plant my flag on this hill. The narrative surrounding this season is wildly different if Peat doesn’t drop the football at Auburn or that bogus roughing the punter against Kentucky doesn’t happen. This thing feels a lot closer than the 6-7 record indicates.

Hit the portal HARD for OL and DEs, maybe find a QB to compete with Horn next year, hire a strong OC, whatever it takes. Either way, this is closer to where we wanna go than it feels right now. Stay the course, and we’ll get where we wanna go. I may be in the minority here, but I’m not nearly as anti-Drinkwitz as most of the fanbase seems.

Get some perspective on Drink hire and expectations

People are forgetting the hole we had dug before hiring Drink. The last two years of Pinkel recruiting weren’t great And the woke scandal hurt our reputation. The recruiting under Odem wasn’t great. We dug a 5 year hole in terms of our talent depth. No high profile power 5 coach wanted the Mizzou job then or wants it today. It means when we do hire a coach we have to hire a head coach who is hot from a small school or a coordinator from a big program. It means they are a developmental hire. The ceo of an sec football program is not an easy job when we are probably in the 10-14th category of NIL money and facilities in our conference. A school like Mizzou has to take the risk that their hire develops into a ceo of a high level SEC football program. That’s probably a 5 year evaluation and development period. Drink has done well at recruiting during a time of Covid, portal, and NIL. His teams have played hard for him and haven’t quit Facing adversity. He has question marks on player development and game management. I am rooting for him to continue to develop as a coach and get the program to the level of a consistent 9 game or better winner each year. If he fails in that improvement the next 2 years it means we are starting the 5 year process all over again on taking a risk on a coordinator or small school head coach. There are millions on the line for Drink so hopefully he figures it out. I’m sure he’s motivated to improve. The offensive line depth and current talent level of the oline is a bigger issue than our QB play. Doesn’t seem like you see a lot of portal transfers at oline. Hopefully Drink finds some.

BASKETBALL Kobe Brown named SEC Player of the Week

Senior Kobe Brown (Huntsville, Ala.) added another weekly honor on Tuesday, earning SEC Player of the Week accolades after a record-setting performance against No. 16 Illinois.

Also named the Lute Olson Award National Player of the Week, Brown poured in 31 points against rival Illinois to go with eight assists, five rebounds and four steals. His 31 points are the most ever by a Mizzou player in the McBride Homes Braggin’ Rights Game, while he is the first Tiger to record 30 points and eight assists in a game since Clarence Gilbert tallied 43 points and nine helpers in a four-overtime contest on Jan. 13, 2001.

Overall, Brown set career highs with his 31 points and eight assists, while his four steals are a season-best total.

After leading the Tigers to the 93-71 victory versus Illinois, Brown is second on the team with 14.4 points per game and first with 5.7 rebounds. The senior is also shooting 61.5 percent from the field and 44.4 percent from 3-point range – one of just two players nationally shooting over 60 percent from the field and 40 percent from beyond the arc – while adding 2.8 assists and 1.3 steals.

The SEC Player of the Week accolade is the second for Brown during his career as he also collected the award last January following a win over No. 15 Alabama.

Brown and Mizzou are back in action on Wednesday night, hosting No. 19 Kentucky. Tipoff at Mizzou Arena is set for 6 p.m.

DBZOU NIL

Please consider sponsoring. We need more people to get involved if this is going to be sustainable. We've worked very hard behind the scenes to show Ennis and others that loyalty can be rewarded.

100% of the money goes to important contributors on our defense - and this DB group could be really special next year. We also hope to add a couple DL and OL.

You can sponsor for as little as $100 and if just 20% of PM members contributed we'd be able to really make a difference. 💯

Collectively we can make a big impact ⏬️
