NIL sucks and our Universities did this to themselves.

The incentive for players issue has been around for years and the NCAA and school Presidents did nothing. They could have worked out an agreement that would have negated this. Instead the Woke Betas that run our universities let the courts decide they panicked rushed approval of the NIL rules that will help the top players but maybe destroy college football as we know it. Did anyone expect they would get this right. This is the same group who has flooded the Universities with hundreds of high paying worthless jobs and raised tuition to the point that many grads will never be able to pay off their loans. 20 years from now the number of D1 football schools will be cut in half.

How to approach Lovett and others...JMO

I would simply recruit them, hard, and put together the best money deal we can. This is how it is going to be, and the best way to keep others from poaching is to demonstrate that if they are coming after a Mizzou player, they may get them but it is going to be a fight all they way, and expensive as we can make it. If I were Drink, I'd look at the equivocation "I may stay" as an opening and a tip off that the kid would like to stay. As they say "Show him some love".

Where the hell do you even go from here?

To say this is crushing is an understatement. What does this do to recruiting? What does it do to the current roster? Fandom? Attendance? Team/Staff morale?

To say I’m a broken fan at the moment is another understatement. Lovett leaving would be devastating - if Luther leaves too? Goodness. I’d ask for someone to talk me off the ledge but I’m really not sure how this could be spun positively.

FOOTBALL 2007-2008 in the age of NIL and the transfer portal.

Do those seasons even happen if we had those rosters in today's game?

Every blue blood in the country would've been throwing ridiculous money at Maclin after his freshman year. Same with Chase, same with Coffman, same with Spoon and Willy Mo after 07.

There's a good chance that we would've been pilfered after 07 and wouldn't even have had a chance at a repeat season in 08. We just wouldn't have been able to afford to pay everyone.

How many would've been turned off from college sports at that point and not come back?

That's the current reality we're facing in college sports and unless this is regulated soon, there will be a mass exodus of fans from any program that isn't a blue blood.

Just something that was on my mind this morning.

I hate it, but you can’t blame Lovett for shopping his worth

He’s got one free transfer. We all would love one chance to shop our talent to the best OVERALL situation.

Unlike others, I doubt this is only about NIL. I’m sure that is a big part, but he isn’t going to New Mexico State if they are the highest bidder. He will go to the situation that provides him the best balance of multiple variables including the following:

1) NIL Value
2) Opportunity to set himself up for the NFL
3) Opportunity to play for a championship level team
4) Team with an ESTABLISHED QB

I’m sure there are other things he’ll consider, but I’m guessing those four are at the top of the decision tree.

I hate the current environment as much as the next guy, but I can’t blame a young man for taking advantage of an opportunity that he may never again have in his life.

FOOTBALL You nut jobs

Stop being a bunch of chicken littles. We may very well lose Lovett, that sucks, but Burden ain't leaving, heard nothing that says Cooper is leaving, Mekhi Miller is a stud, and according to some sites (numbers) Wayne was a higher rated recruit who has been playing defense because of lack of room at the WR room.

Let's assume we have Burden, Cooper, Miller and Wayne next year. Is that any worse than what we have right now? Assuming Burden and Miller take the big steps forward that Lovett made last year, that's really a better corps than we currently have. Would Lovett make it better? Sure, but the sky is not falling anymore than it has any other year. Did it suck when Wingo transferred? Yup. How was our D without him? Pretty fancy I'd say.

TL/DR....calm your nutty selves down, let it all play out. If we are 5-7/6-6 next year, feel free to go nuts, until we see how that plays out too....

Program building is dead

The portal has killed it.
It’s going to be a series of “one and done” teams.
Every year will be a new year.. Don’t play, you move.
High school recruiting is going to recede in value as none are “known” commodities..
Juco and anyone with an on field resume is going to become more valuable as there will be a body of work.
Drinkwitz is a great recruiter..
This may… may… play to his strengths.
Wild West lies ahead.., Cowboy up!

My thoughts on Lovett

I'm about 98% sure Luther ain't going anywhere. This is strictly a money move, which is dumb as hell. He ain't getting as much money as folks think. It'll be less than 100k an dif I was Drink I wouldn't even try to keep him. This is part of the whole ESL infrastructure type of deal. As long as DJ is representing Luther he's locked in and I don't see that happening because DJ's relationships helped broker some of Luther's deals.

Lovett is a nice player, but he can and will be replaced. It actually opens up Luther to play in the slot more and get those same routes Lovett was running. Hopefully, Luper comes back and you get Miller on the field more and then there's no drop-off. I think this is a dumb move on Lovett's behalf because there's too many variables that could hurt his success. The offense he goes to, what position he'll play, is he the No. 1 WR? I wish the young man nothing but success, but I don't agree with the decision for on the field reasons and life after football reasons.
