When Jacob Eberhart got back to Missouri on Jan. 18, he let the Tigers know what position he wanted to play in the future.

Former co-defensive coordinator and linebackers coach D.J. Smith, who left the program for Appalachian State this past month, recruited Eberhart as a linebacker-safety hybrid as the three-star athlete continued to grow.

But with his development taking off his junior season and recruitment seeing a major uptick, Eberhart, the cousin of former Missouri linebacker Markus Golden, recognized his future in the secondary and wanted to let Tigers head coach Eli Drinkwitz know his intentions for the next level.

"I told Coach Drinkwitz I'm not looking to play linebacker, I'm looking to play safety," Eberhart said. "But building that relationship with all my coaches is always nice, people I'm going to talk to in the future and get close with."
