I love playing golf and enjoy watching it (mostly final rounds) but am disappointed that ESPN chose to host College Gameday at The Masters. It's really annoying hearing them pimp this. I realize they are only doing this to promote the fact that they are covering the early rounds on the ESPN network. It's a real stretch hearing them trying to link golf with college football. They tried to go out of their way to connect the dots but failed miserably. Their efforts included talking about the legendary Bobby Jones (who designed Augusta) by saying he attended Georgia Tech and GA Tech once won the most lopsided college football game in history. Did he play on that team? No. Did he play college football? No. The Masters is a great American sporting event. It's also the most pretentious events in sports.
They could of and should have broadcasted live from a PAC game and welcome them back into the season. This would have helped the conference get some desparately needed positive publicity at a time when the West Coast legislatures (especially CA, WA & OR) continually threaten to shut everything down. The PAC could have used the boost. Helping them also helps college football. Lost opportunity.
I wish they would at least interviewed a few golfers who played football like Hale Irwin from St. Louis (former Colorado DB) or Tom Watson from KC (former HS QB). I know they are old. These are just quick thoughts.
Anyway, I love College Gameday and enjoy golf. I just love college football more than any other sport and this is a very short season. I guess I just want more before the season ends. Go ahead and bomb away at me.
