I’ve just been looking at the progression of Cook’s passing stats. It appears to me that he took a jump after the K State and Auburn games, has played progressively better against Georgia, Florida and Vandy, and played his best game to date against South Carolina. It seems like he continues to improve.

That’s something that some of us said from the beginning was a possibility as he gained experience and confidence. How many of you agree that he is improving, and what do you predict his ceiling may be?

P5 Opp Comp% YPA Passer Rating
(Best 2 games in bold)

K State 55.6 4.7 80.6

Aub 58.3 7.5 112.7

GA 62.5 6.0 123.2

FLA 73.3 7.3 121.6

Vandy 68.0 8.4 144.1

USCe 65.4 8.6 137.8

Cook took a big jump in both YPA and Passer Rating in the last 2 games. Part of the reason for that is that his % Accurate Throws has continued to improve and Receiver Drops on catchable balls has continued to decline (per SECStatCat). They are probably partially related, though I expect that our receivers may also be improving as well.

I took these stats from SECStatCat (USCe is not yet available). I aggregated K State and Auburn stats because they were similar, then combined GA, FLA and Vandy because they also seemed similar. I expect we might see some improvement in his advanced stats for So Car when those become available in a couple of days.

Combined Stat KSU/AU UG/UF/Van

% Accurate Throws 51% 62%

% Explosive Plays 5.8% 11.4%

% Passes Dropped 9.3% 3.5%

% Passes Intercepted 5.9% 3.5%

*Explosive Play Progression.. KSU thru Vandy
Explosive Play % 3.7 8.3 9.4 13.3 12.0
