Sankey is in attendance for the basketball game today so we had a chance to ask him a few questions. I will have a full story tomorrow morning, but here are a few notes:
-- Sankey said as of now the opportunity still exists to make up every men's basketball game that has been canceled, but you have to be prepared to not get every game in and okay with that. Tournament seeding will be based on win percentage
-- Said as of now he still anticipates having an SEC tournament. Pointed to the fact that the SEC was able to have an in-person SEC women's soccer tournament and crown a champion without anyone getting sick
-- Asked if there have been conversations about teams opting out of the conference tournament yet, Sankey didn't give a firm answer but said the conference remains committed to competition, that's why they had ranked teams playing as late as Dec. 19 in football, and they will wait as long as possible to make any major decisions
-- Said Mizzou's bowl game being canceled won't change the percentage of bowl disbursement they receive from the conference
-- Asked when we could expect full stadiums again, said he'd like to think things will trend back to normal by the fall but he doesn't want to make any guarantees. Said even with the football schedule that was announced this week, the approach is the same as last year: Plan to play the games as scheduled but the virus will ultimately dictate reality and they have to be prepared to pivot
