I have a solution to the SEC mega conference

Every major school in the country joins the SEC.

They then divide the Conference into 5 separate divisions, based on geographics.

At the end of the year, based on division record, coaches AND media vote for the top 4 teams, and the division winners play in a tournament to decide the national championship.
