Also on Wednesday, Jeff Smith, Senior Director of Compliance for ku Athletic Department, testified that he was made aware at some point that De Sousa signed a contract with a pro team in Spain.
"Yes," Smith Said
To me that in its self speaks volumes...even though nobody is talking about it. Here is the Senior Director of Compliance...knowing DeSousa signed a pro contract. Now...if I was going to guess...DeSousa will never play for kU...and Smith will be punished or resign...and that could get them off the hook. NCAA loves to say that the school was proactive in the punishment. DeSousa and Smith will take the bullet...and Townsend and Self will skate. Looks like lack of institutional control for sure. But it diverts the blame from the real offenders.
Am I wrong? Signing a contract...no matter where...can't happen and be eligible...and they knew about it while letting DeSousa remain on the roster....
