I have no information on what went down; I know what I read on here, and that’s about it. I do know, though, that following the recruitment of 17 and 18 year olds is often a fool’s errand.
Anyway, for me, it would be a whole lot more disappointing if Mizzou had been the clear and overwhelming favorite from the jump, only to have Texas (or anyone else) swoop in at the last moment to steal him away.
As it was, from the first that I noticed Wingo’s recruitment, Texas was the clear leader. Around that time I noticed, too, that Nwaneri was thought to be Oklahoma bound.
I recall that the Chambers spoke of the recruits that MU had a solid chance to land, and that Wingo and Nwaneri were very much longshots.
Over time, that began to change, first with Nwaneri, and then Wingo. I think 4 months ago we would have been ecstatic to get 1 of the 2. In fact, IIRC, we only started getting our hopes up with Wingo after WN committed.
So, I think we tend to focus on recency and think he was a Missouri lean all along. That clearly was not the case.
I wanted to gain his commitment for all the reasons we’ve stated all day. But losing someone we barely had (if at all), stings a little less, at least for me.
