Seeing Mizzou with a 1-11 record vs Ole Miss in their last 12, started my night out on a sour note. Fortunately we changed that ever so slightly tonight.

1. Could it be anything else? Our guard combo tonight put up 49 points, 9 boards, 5 assists and 2 steals to only 3 turnovers. Two games in a row they've been phenomenal. I'll have some numbers tomorrow on these guys changing the dynamic and getting our run game tuned up by getting paint possessions. Spoiler, the leader in that regard may not be the one you think.

2. The shot making faltered tonight. Tigers shot 38% from the field and 23% from 3. However, doing my 3 game of possession tracking, this will give us some good data on where our shots were coming, whether they were good looks, and our % in those. More tomorrow.

3. The stat comparison showed this as two pretty even teams. Well, pomeroy had it 67-65 iirc, so I guess these are two pretty even teams.

Fg: Miz 38% -- om 40%
3pt: Miz 27% -- om 23%
Ft: Miz 23-27 85% -- 23-30 70%
Boards: even (oreb Miz +2)
To's: Miz +3
Assists: Miz +1

4. Tyree. Hell of a player. Tigers have a way of fvcking up defensive coverage in late lead, last second opportunities. We survived Anthony Edwards and Tyree. Almost the same spot on the floor. It's the new north endzone for footing.

5. You could make a pretty good argument this is one of the best stretches of Mizzou hoops under Martin. Their 5 straight sec wins in year 1 is probably still tops. The last 4 in non-con the last two seasons are up there. Good to be in the convo. Would do well to enhance it.

6. The refs, still shitty. Not as bad as recently, but still...meh. I'm of the belief they're pissed they don't get to pick on Tilmon, so they pick on everyone. The Braun putback is sanctionable. Contact? Probably. Necessary? Absolutely not. Would hate to allow any excitement not involved in the ref recital. GTFO.

7. This win alone isn't all that spectacular. Ole Miss is average, at best. But this is 3 of our last 4 and 5 of our last nine that were one possession affairs and Mizzou is 3-2. Learning how to win close games is important. Also important is minimizing the wvu, USC and aTm abortions.

8. Tigers currently sit 10th in league play. With a strong finish, there's a reasonable path to 8th. Avoiding day 1 in the sect gives you a punchers chance at competing. There's not a current top 4 seed that Mizzou hasn't competed with/beaten (uk/lsu/Auburn/fla). It's way too early to worry about that, but it's something to play for since we've guaranteed at least as many sec wins as last year. The NIT is also sitting on the horizon. I think if you make yourself eligible +.500, you've got a good shot. Some tough matchups coming up though.
