BASKETBALL Schedule is full of patsies. We should win 17+

This seasons success is more about who we are than who we play imo. The past couple of years we were a lousy team who couldn't beat anyone with a pulse. We now have some young exciting talent and that gives me a bit of hope. Unfortunately experience & development makes a difference and I don't think we will be good enough yet for Sterk to re-up CKA. I sincerely hope I'm wrong and we have a great year. If Muenger is gloating come March we will all be happier for it.

Cobra and MJ are a couple of the top hoop posters and make good points in the thread. I don’t see MU getting more than 16-17 wins and that’s if things go well, freshmen are better than expected, sophs take that jump and no major injuries.

If MU can scratch their way to 18+ wins, is competitive in the SEC, wins a couple SEC tourney games and 1-2 in the NIT, I could see Kim getting a fourth year. BTW-I don’t consider making the CBI good enough, unless MU runs the table and wins that tourney. Not expecting any of this to happen though.

The Balvenie Doublewood 12 on sale for $34.95 at Macadoodles in Columbia I believe. Would be happy to send a bottle your way if you win.
If you prefer 'Murican-made, lots of fantastic bourbon can be had for $35. That will get you 750 ml of Woodford, Eagle Rare, or even Four Roses Single Barrel if you find it on sale.
@hmd77 would you like to proceed with the wager?

I'm seeing 9-3 noncon and 8-10 in the SEC. The SEC is godawful, and our schedule is filled with winnable games. If Kim can't win 17 with this slate, he's got to go.

I had calibrated my Kim Stays record at 15-15 before the league schedule came out, but after looking at the entire schedule, they should be able to do better than that. 15-15 and I think you cut him loose.
But what if we're a patsie?

The flip side is that Auburn, Mississippi State, Kentucky and Texas A&M brought in top-25 recruiting classes. LSU still has remnants of a really good class that came in with Simmons -- Brandon Sampson and Antonio Blakeney, plus Craig Victor -- and Florida will have some nice pieces in play. Carolina kept Thornwell. You can see potential for six teams to push for four bids to NCAA tournament.

The middle of the league is going to be mush. Yet Mizzou's recruiting class was ranked next to last. In a down league. It's not like this roster, at least as its comprised right now, is set up to make a hard push for a No. 7 or No. 8 finish. In all likelihood, if they finish 10th, that would be a surprise.

I really wasn't comparing Mizzou to anyone in the SEC with my post. (I know that's probably misleading given the thread I posted it in) Just some thoughts on the state of the SEC.

Though FWIW I don't see 4 teams getting in the tournament next year. Last year in a supposedly "up" year for the conference they only got 3.

I don't disagree with your second paragraph.

I picked up what you were putting down. Agree it's going to be rough for Fox, who I really like as an Xs and Os guy, and Vanderbilt this season. Curious to see how Andy does at Ole Miss. I can't believe he didn't get a long look from Memphis. The guy helped get a new arena built and has that program fighting for bubble contention every year.

There's a ton of good coaches in this league. In two or three years, I think you'll see a conference where Florida, Kentucky, Auburn, Mississippi State, Texas A&M, Tennessee, Vanderbilt and (maybe) Alabama are all teams that can get in the mix for the NCAA tournament. Time is ticking, though, for Johnny and Mike at their stops. I could see Andy bolting. Fox, too. Schools have put money into facilities and coaches. Just a matter of seeing whether those pay dividends.

Florida's first season under Mike White and Johnny squandering Ben Simmons cost them two bids. And I'm guessing the hope was that Malik Newman and Mississippi State might find their way on to the bubble.

FWIW, here's how the SEC has fared in terms of overall rank (using adjusted efficiency) in the recent past:

2016: 6th (5th of power 5)
2015: 5th (4th of power 5)
2014: 6th (5th of power 5)
2013: 7th (5th of power 5)
---pre-Mizzou
2012: 4th (3rd of power 5)

So yeah...it hasn't really gotten any better over our last two coaching tenures, and it's consistently the worst among our peer conferences.

The Big East is quickly catching the SEC. Look at what Creighton, Marquette, Butler, Xavier and Nova are doing in recruiting the past couple of cycles. Providence should still be really solid under Cooley and it'll be interesting to see if Seton Hall can maintain progress without Whitehead.

Thank you for your expertise on calling winners and losers....let me see, you played basketball on video games, right?

Yes, the experiences of everyone else in the world pale in comparison to yours, and there couldn't possibly be anyone with a basketball background on this board besides you. Nailed it! Nice job, dawg.

And even with all that, Mizzou will likely win 3-5 SEC games, max.

I think we'll do much better since you've been such a great help to Kim by donating your time and fantastic recruiting skills to aid the program!

Everyone complains about the non-conference schedule every year, regardless of who is on it. So, just for the record, you have given us 9 patsies to beat. Who is the 3rd team that we will lose too? I'm assuming you have Xavier and AZ will beat us.

Does Kim need help?
Some fan support would be nice. He hasn't gotten much since he was hired. That includes me as I never thought he could recruit well at this level and he hasn't shown a lot of it as yet. However, we he was hired and if we are Mizzou fans he should have gotten a lot more from us than he has.
