Seeing someone die

I unfortunately was directly behind a fatality accident this morning in Platte County MO.

I was on a two lane state highway (45) and was about 80 yards behind the cars when they collided. Guy in front of me in a little Ford Ranger type truck started sliding a little (I assume due to the tiny bit of snow slush on the road) and went head on into the oncoming lane of traffic. Completely smashed the front end of his truck and sent the other vehicle, a decent sized SUV, into the shoulder.

I got out and ran up to see if everyone was okay and the driver was folded like an accordion due to the truck being crushed and was bleeding pretty bad. He was struggling to take his last breaths.

Myself and some Army guys on their way to Ft. Leavenworth were able to get his wife out of the truck and onto the ground but she was messed up and writhing in pain, and the driver of the SUV was coherent and conscious but unable to move himself from his driver seat.

By the time the cops and emergency response got there, they took one look at the guy and checked his pulse, before moving on to his wife and the other driver. They were in no hurry to cut the driver of the truck out or spend much time giving him medical attention, because he was gone and his body was no doubt mangled.

I felt terrible for those involved, but it didn't really phase me that much or freak me out. My coworkers and family seem to be concerned about me for some reason like I'm the one who had the traumatizing accident. Maybe I should be more effected than I am, but maybe some people are just wired differently?

Have you ever watched someone die or seen someone get injured or killed unexpectedly like that? Did it effect you in a deep way?

Just trying to figure out if I'm the weird one for not being traumatized, if the weight of seeing that will take a few days to effect me, or if my response to it all is somewhat normal.
