Under Gates initial contract, the assistant pool was $915,000. Of that CY Young was making 600K, Nutt 165K and Smithpeters 150K. So even if the pool got a bump with Gates' extension last year (I'm not sure if it did), you're probably only looking at about 200-225K for a new assistant. So for those throwing out some of the big names, that's not going to happen. CY is the big name.
