***Two key WR targets in Dillon Alfred and Isaiah Mozee have set summer officials with Missouri this past week. Alfred, the Saraland (Ala.) product, was at Missouri in January for a Jr. Day visit and set his official visit date for June 7th-9th. Mozee, who has been to Missouri numerous times already has set his official for June 21st-23rd.
In-state TE target Daeden Hopkins also scheduled his Missouri official for the weekend of June 21st-23rd. He was at the K-State game during the season and returned in January for Mizzou's Jr. Day. Iowa State and K-State are schools he's also visited frequently in recent months.
Other top targets that we expect to take summer officials or have told us they will include wide receiver Corey Simms, linebackers Dawson Merritt and Christian Thatcher.
***Who will be Missouri's first commitment in the 2025 class? We detailed five candidates who could pop soon with our top candidate being four-star DT Jason Dowell.
Four-star QB Matt Zollers ranks as the No. 2 candidate on our list as we've heard this week that Missouri's NIL offer to the signal-caller out of Pennsylvania is in the seven-figure range. So, it seems very clear that Zollers is Missouri's top guy currently as he'll embark on spring visits to his Top 4 programs - Mizzou, Penn State, Pitt, and Georgia before making a decision quickly those visits wrap up.

Who's got your vote?
***From what we are told, Missouri feels very good about Zollers. The term "driver's seat" was used. However, Penn State is local and in contention. Word out of PSU camp, though, is Mizzou has an NIL offer on the table that the Nittany Lions "can't compete with." We checked with someone familiar with Georgia recruiting and the belief is that Zollers is a take for the Bulldogs, but they aren't in the lead right now.
All of these are good signs for the Tigers, but nothing's done till it's done.
***Speaking of quarterbacks, we've known since the Sam Horn injury that Missouri was going to be active in the transfer portal this spring. But it may not even have to wait that long.
We've gotten word that Mizzou will have a potential transfer quarterback on campus next weekend. That player is Drew Pyne, originally a four-star quarterback from New Canaan, CT in the class of 2020. Pyne originally signed with Notre Dame and his journey since then has been interesting to say the least.
He appeared in 6 games and threw 18 passes in his first two seasons in South Bend. 2020 didn't count toward anyone's eligibility and he redshirted in 2021. He then appeared in 11 games completing 64.6% of his passes for 2021 yards, 22 touchdowns and six interceptions for the Fighting Irish in 2022. That was technically his redshirt freshman season. After that, he transferred to Arizona State. He went 26/49 in two games with two touchdowns and three interceptions. His only start came against USC, where he went 21-36 for 221, two touchdowns and a pick.
After the 2023 season, Pyne transferred back to Notre Dame. However, he did not do so as a football player. He told ESPN in December that he was transferring back to South Bend to focus on academics and earn his degree this spring. Once he does that, he will become an immediately eligible transfer with three years to play.
So this is really the exact situation we laid out for a hypothetical perfect fit for Mizzou. The Tigers aren't looking for a 2024 starting quarterback. They already have one. But they'll have an open competition after Brady Cook leaves in December. Sam Horn will be coming off Tommy John surgery, Aidan Glover will be a redshirt freshman, whoever they sign in 2025 will be a true freshman. Pyne is a former 4-star recruit who hasn't lived up to that billing yet. But he's started major college football games, so if Cook were to go down (short term or long term) Pyne at least has some experience and could step in this year. Then he'd have a year left in which he could compete for the starting quarterback job.
According to a source, Pyne is still active in the transfer portal. So keep an eye on this one. Could be a good fit for both sides.
***March is upon us and spring visits will start ramping up next week. Missouri will have their first big visit day on March 9th for their scrimmage. We compiled a list of every target that is expected to be on campus throughout the month of March HERE and we'll continue to update it as we get more names.
***On the basketball side, Selection Sunday is March 17. Obviously that's not news as it pertains to this Missouri team. However, the transfer portal opens the next day. It will remain open for 45 days. With Mizzou done playing games by that point, the only advantage is that the Tigers should know who is leaving the current team and how many spots it has to fill on the roster. The early end could also give the staff a chance to get a jump in recruiting the earliest wave of transfers while other teams are still playing postseason basketball. Once we hit that window, we'll keep you up to date daily on Mizzou's activity. Not like there will be anything else basketball-related happening in mid-March and beyond.
